I Signed up for a Medicare Advantage Plan, Now What?

Updated: Nov 9, 2022

You have Medicare and Retirement Questions. We have Solutions.

The Holidays are over, and you've signed up for a Medicare Advantage Plan during the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15th - December 7th), but what do you do now?

Our experience is that people opt out of their Advantage Plans because they do not understand how the plan works, which becomes too confusing. Or they signed up for a plan that does not fit their specific needs. That's why it is essential to work with an Agent.

You'll need to ensure you have all of your insurance cards and your welcome packet from the Insurance Carrier. If you do not, please be sure to contact your Medicare Agent to inform them. If you do not have a Medicare Agent, you must contact the Carrier.

Next, you will need to inform your Doctors of the change in your Insurance. It is much easier to call each of them to update your information, and this is especially important if you are receiving your Medications by Mail-Order Pharmacy.

If you are receiving your Medications via Mail-Order Pharmacy, be sure to call the new Mail-Order Pharmacy and update your information for a smooth transition.

Get to know the Extra Benefits your plan has to offer. The best place to find this information is in your Summary of Benefits Book.

If your plan offers an Over-The-Counter allowance, make sure you take advantage of it. You should have received a specified amount and a catalog from which to order. Depending on your plan, you can shop directly at a specific store, but most offer online ordering or call in for delivery.
