Medicare for Mom & Dad or Elder Loved One

Senior Solutions, LLC Medicare for Mom & Dad, or Elder Loved One

We get it. You want the very best for your parents, grandparents, or elder loved one (s) who have Medicare. We have parents too, and we know it is equally vital that your parents, or loved ones, receive the very best when working with an Agent, especially when it comes to Medicare and Retirement.

On any typical day, your loved one (s) see multiple commercials, receive numerous sales calls, and receive an abundance of mail, all claiming they can help with Medicare or their Retirement needs. All are promising they are the very best and can offer them a chance to save money, but how do you or they know they are receiving that promise? How do you know they are working with a trusted advisor?

First, any person who claims to be a Medicare Agent/Advisor/Broker or otherwise would never charge for their service. Any person offering Medicare Services needs to be licensed by the state. They must provide a license number, and if you are in doubt, you can check with your State's Insurance Department to verify their number.

A Medicare Agent cannot show up to your loved one's home unannounced or without an appointment.

How are appointments made?

  • Response to an advertisement either online or by USPS by filling out an appointment form

  • Accepting an appointment over the phone

  • Setting up an appointment date from a Seminar, or Educational Event

Once the appointment is over and the Medicare Agent has conducted their Medicare Benefits Review, your loved one (s) should clearly understand the offer or what they signed up for.

Keep in mind that if they call the 800 numbers or an ad from TV, there is a good chance the Agent on the other end of the line can only provide plans from one Carrier (Insurer), and this means they may not get what they need or are entitled to.

How do you know if they received the "very best"?

A good Medicare Insurance Agent is not bound by one Carrier (Insurer). Instead, they can compare multiple plans by multiple Carriers (Insurers) to make sure they are proving the best plan that is suited to the needs of your loved one (s).

They should have gone over their current Medicare Coverage if they have the following:

  • Original Medicare only A+B

  • Prescription Drug Plan

  • Medigap or Supplement Insurance

  • Current Medicare Advantage Plan

  • Medicare and Medicaid

  • How much they're currently paying

The Agent needs to check for all Doctors, Hospitals, and preferred Pharmacies in Network. There is no reason to change anything unless your loved one (s) want to. However, they MUST go over every prescription and check the formularies to make sure they can either beat the cost or stay the same.

The Agent should have provided their information on the proposed or agreed-upon plan and a book or extensive notes.

Overall, the Agent will have ensured they are leaving your loved one (s) with peace of mind that they are receiving the best plan suited for their needs. You should also be able to call that Agent with any questions, and your loved one (s) should always be able to connect directly to the person who helped with their Medicare or retirement needs.

Last, your Agent or the company they represent should have an online presence, a social media presence, or something that solidifies their claims of being a Medicare Advisor.
